Constructed between 1886 and 1887, the building was located on the site where the former Casa Panera del Pósito was situated. This work was entirely done by the Local Council. In 1890 the architect Justo Millán Espinosa was in charge of remodelling the theatre façade, by adopting it a classicist style. It’s an Italian style theatre with a horseshoe-shaped plan, being its box seats distributed and supported by cast-iron columns.
The ceiling was decorated in 1887 by the painter and theatrical designer José Ortiz de Gamundi. In 1899 it was called Concha Segura, paying tribute to the well-known actress who was born in Yecla. The restoration carried out in 1991 preserved its original design, both the exterior and interior ones, being the decoration of its ceilings done by the painter from Lorca Manuel Muñoz Barberá.
The building has been reformed several times. In 1984 it was completely demolished and later built according to the project by the architect Miguel Puche Vizcaíno. The new building was conceived just as it was originally. The theatre is based on a 612 square metres site, with a rectangular ground plan and a façade 17,90 metres high.
Inside the building we can find two different parts: the first one is made up of the main foyer and two sets of side stairs, which lead towards the general stands. The stalls, with a curved ground plan, and the general plan and the stage, comprise the second one.
The theatre is called “Concha Segura” paying tribute to the actress from Yecla, who was born in the same place where the theatre was built.
