Yecla is an authentic jewel for archaeology lovers. It has always been an area of transit. That was the reason why different civilisations left a little of their treasures in Yecla. It is well known that the preceding history helps us understand what we are today. Thus, we invite you to visit and know Yecla from its archaeological sites and routes and its Municipal Archaeological Museum “Cayetano de Mergelina.” All of them will tell you a story worthy of the best Hollywood script.
It is not very well known the fact that our sector was originated from an important crisis in the second half of the 19th century, the crisis in the sector of French wine, which was affected by phylloxera. The increase in wine demand in France called the need for felling trees in lands of Yecla, where vineyards started to be planted. The excessive amount of wood was the seed for the furniture industry in Yecla. We have overcome many crises but we have always emerged stronger out of them. In this way, it has evolved from a traditional handcraft to a large industry. During those periods, this industry has spread to the domestic market. It has also made remarkable progress with respect to its quality and design, adopting new technologies and expanding throughout the markets worldwide.
The culture of Yecla is rich in variety, ideal for relaxing and disconnecting from the bustle of big cities for a few days. We recommend you to go for a walk while enjoying our cultural routes. Thus, you will be able to visit the town centre, contemplate and enjoy its historic quarter and climb to the highest part of the town. We also recommend you to consult our wide range of museums and leave some time for visiting one or several of our museums.
The gastronomy in Yecla is unique. Our hot meals and dishes, our “tapas”, our wines, our olive oils and our pastries which delight all kind of palates. But, above all, the gastronomy in Yecla is based on meals with which the visitors will fill theirselves up. There is no need to be daunted by the the cold! A good plate of “gazpacho” will prevent you from fainting, that’s for sure! Eating well is something we take very seriously and we always enjoy these moments with a bit of our Designation of Origin Yecla wines. We have come into the world to enjoy life and in Yecla we know a lot about this.

Furthermore, each festivity mobilises many festive associations which organise themselves very well throughout the year to assure us the best festive days.
