It is not very well known the fact that our sector was originated from an important crisis in the second half of the 19th century, the crisis in the sector of French wine, which was affected by phylloxera. The increase in wine demand in France called the need for felling trees in lands of Yecla, where vineyards started to be planted. The excessive amount of wood was the seed for the furniture industry in Yecla. We have overcome many crises but we have always emerged stronger out of them. In this way, it has evolved from a traditional handcraft to a large industry. During those periods, this industry has spread to the domestic market. It has also made remarkable progress with respect to its quality and design, adopting new technologies and expanding throughout the markets worldwide.
